The Plant, Soil and By-product Valorization research group at the Universidade de Vigo, linked to the Institut of Agroecology and Food (IAA) and the Campus Auga, participates in the European project MRV4SOC, funded by Horizon Europe with nearly seven million euros. The project aims to create standardized tools to measure and verify soil organic carbon and the balance of greenhouse gases, promoting sustainable agricultural practices that enhance their capture.
The UVigo group, led by researcher Paula Pérez Rodríguez, which also coordinates synergy activities with other projects and organized a focus group in Galicia on the socioeconomic impact of “carbon farming.” The team is now replicating this initiative in different European regions and is gathering the perceptions of farmers, intermediaries, and buyers/sellers.
