On 31 October, representatives of the Institute of Agroecology and Food (IAA) took part in the La Región Forum, held at the Ourense Campus, to discuss the strategic role of Campus Auga in fostering economic and social development across the province.
The event highlighted the Campus Auga specialisation model, which places innovation, knowledge transfer and sustainability at the core of its strategy. These pillars aim to strengthen Ourense’s position as a hub for research excellence while responding to local challenges through science-based solutions.
The panel focused on water as a driver of development and future opportunities. It brought together leading representatives from academia and institutions. The IAA was represented by its director, David Fernández Calviño; María Rosa Pérez, the University of Vigo’s representative at Clusaga; Gil Garrote, coordinator of the Doctorate in Agri-Food Science; and Pedro Araújo, Dean of the Faculty of Sciences.
During the discussion, they underlined the high level of research carried out by Campus Auga researchers and the IAA’s contribution to developing sustainable solutions for the agri-food sector.
The IAA’s participation in the forum reaffirms its commitment to Campus Auga’s mission: generating knowledge, transferring research results to society and supporting a more innovative, resilient and environmentally responsible local economy.
